Our office and the clients we serve have benefitted from the professional services of Dr. Bruce Yanofsky for more than fourteen years.
We represent people before the Immigration Service and before the Immigration Court and oftentimes the positive resolution of the case pivots on the mental health or mental state of either our client or our client’s qualifying relatives and the level of hardship they would suffer if the case were denied. We have relied on the professional assistance of Dr. Yanofsky on some of the most sensitive and delicate cases we have handled over the years and his work has turned what was a dismal and clearly a losing case into a resounding success.
There are numerous practitioners available who provide psychological evaluations in immigration cases, many who are Spanish speaking. However, my experience has shown that being bilingual is simply insufficient where being truly bicultural is what effectively permits a practitioner to understand the psyche of the person being evaluated, be it our client or the doctor’s patient, and which ultimately makes the difference between a run of the mill psychological evaluation and one where the person’s motivations or the severe consequences to his or her qualifying relatives become clearly apparent.
Dr. Yanofsky is truly bicultural and it is this level of understanding on his part that has assisted our office as lawyers, to successfully resolve some very complicated cases, and much of our success in convincing the adjudicator that the case merits approval has been the result of Dr. Yanofsky’s understanding of the case, the issues at stake, and the sensitive and thorough mental evaluation of the person involved.
Dr. Yanofsky has never shied away from cases where ugly facts or realities are present, rather he has assisted us as attorneys to enlighten the adjudicator with the root causes for behavior that as a society we deem unacceptable, opening a door to assist us in overcoming the bias of the adjudicator and providing us with at least an opportunity for a positive result.
